CERTAIN TYPES OF JACKETING FOUND ON FLEXIBLE WIRE AND CABLE PRODUCTS MAY CONTAIN PLASTICIZERS. PLASTICIZERS CAN CAUSE STRESS CRACKING OF CPVC RESULTING IN PIPING SYSTEM FAILURE.
DIRECT CONTACT WITH FLEXIBLE WIRE AND CABLE CONTAINING PLASTICIZERS IS NOT RECOMMENDED. THESE TYPES OF PRODUCTS SHOULD BE ISOLATED FROM DIRECT CONTACT WITH CPVC PIPING PRODUCTS.
SECTION 334.30 OF THE NATIONAL ELECTRIC CODE (2002 EDITION) REQUIRES WIRE AND CABLE TO BE SECURED BY STAPLES, CABLE TIES, STRAPS, OR HANGERS. AIR DUCTS, PIPES AND CEILING GRID ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE SUPPORTS FOR WIRE AND CABLE. |

Technical Note
Plasticizers can be used as additives in a polymer (plastic) to make certain types of plastics flexible (such as the jacketing found on some cable & wire). Plasticizers typically migrate to the surface of the plastic they are used in, and can then leach into surrounding products that are in contact with them. Being rigid vinyl type plastics, Harvel Plastics, Inc. PVC & CPVC piping products do not contain plasticizers nor come into contact with plasticizers as part of the manufacturing process. Not all flexible coatings contain plasticizers. Isolating the wire/cable from the CPVC will prevent mishaps. |
